Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom Tooth Removal Hawthorn East

Wisdom teeth may not be towards the front of your jaw, but bear a significant importance. Where you give considerable emphasis on the care of front teeth, proper consideration must also be given to wisdom teeth. Not everyone has a healthy growth of wisdom teeth. An improper growth of wisdom teeth can cause bacteria to accumulate on them and disrupt their healthy growth. This can lead to immense oral pain and discomfort.

Similarly, if the position of wisdom tooth growth is sideways instead of straight up, then this can also lead to sudden pain. This situation may arise due to insufficient space for wisdom tooth in the mouth. Sometimes, the only option left to get rid of this pain is by completely removing wisdom teeth. But this decision should be made after a proper consultation with the professional dentist. No such signs of infection or discomfort should be overlooked. You cannot expect the pain of such deep infection to go away right away. Visit us and acquire the best possible advice from skilled dental professionals with years of experience in dentistry.

How Wisdom Tooth Removal Works?

The most suitable approach to remove your affected wisdom teeth is completely dependent on the nature of wisdom teeth growth. Firstly, we get an OPG (full mouth radiograph) done for your wisdom teeth to check the position of lower and upper wisdom teeth in relation to the anatomical landmarks (IAN- Inferior alveolar nerve and sinus). If it is a fully impacted wisdom tooth, then the procedure may be a bit complex. Some portion of the bone must be removed first to make the affected wisdom tooth clearly appear. Then micro-instrumentation procedures are utilised to remove the horizontal wisdom tooth by dividing the wisdom tooth into multiple pieces. The void bone space is filled with bone graft material.

For partially affected wisdom tooth, surgical drilling is performed to remove the bone portion around the tooth. Once done, the affected tooth is divided into two pieces for convenient removal.

If the wisdom tooth is partially erupted, then a mere use of simple elevator instrument can lift and remove the tooth right away. This type of issue is the easiest to handle and does not take more than 2 minutes to complete. We are well-equipped with the expertise and tools to carry out wisdom tooth extraction and removal procedure of different kinds. For very complex wisdom teeth, referral to an Oral and maxillo-facial surgeon may be required.

Usually there are no major risks associated with the removal and extraction of wisdom tooth. There are slight effects of treatment that include swelling of gums, some pain on the treated area, slight damage to already existing dental fillings adjacent to wisdom teeth. But adopting proper preventive measures would ensure that these risks don’t lead to any serious complications. You should not hesitate to visit the professional dentist in case of any unnecessary pain or discomfort after this surgery.

Post-Surgical Measures

We always encourage our patients to adopt preventive measures to avoid any sort of prolonged bleeding or infection. Don’t chew hard and avoid any sort of touching on the treated area. There is no need to push hard while brushing or cleaning your teeth. Local anaesthesia can be used in combination with a general anaesthesia in case of multiple wisdom teeth removal procedure.

Are there Any Associated Risks?

There are no major risks associated with the removal and extraction of wisdom tooth. There are slight effects of treatment that include swelling of gums, mild pain on the treated area, slight damage to already existing dental fittings like crowns and bridges. But adopting proper preventive measures would ensure that these risks don’t lead to any serious complications. You should not hesitate to visit the professional dentist in case of any unnecessary pain or discomfort after this surgery.
